The course aims to provide students with computing knowledge, covering areas such as planning, implementation, configuration and maintenance of an organization’s computing infrastructure. It equips students with skills including communication, critical thinking, cross-culture awareness, lifelong learning.
The course prepares students for employment in all sectors and industries, as well as pathway to a computing degree program. Students who successfully complete the Diploma of Information Technology program will be eligible for admission to Bachelor of Computing and Bachelor of Technology at Curtin Malaysia, with advanced standing of a maximum 200 credits.
Learning Outcomes
A graduate of this course can:
- Obtain, analyse and document user requirements to develop appropriate IT solutions in relevant functional areas in ways that demonstrate system and critical thinking skills.
- Use relevant technologies and information to support, configure, deploy and maintain computer solutions to meet the organizational information technology needs.
- Use and explain concepts in system and computer solutions for entrepreneurial, organisational and community needs.
- Communicate effectively and professionally individually or as part of a team, in ways appropriate to the audience and purpose.
- Demonstrate an understanding of cultural diversity and how this informs the use of technology in an ethical, legal and socially responsible manner.
- Demonstrate lifelong learning skills in their academic and career development.
Course Organisation
Year 1 of the diploma program contains four English language and academic diligence enabling units which are aimed at developing a range of generic skills in students including writing and speaking skills, critical thinking and research skills. In addition, students also study foundational units in information technology, programming and engineering mathematics.
In Year 2, students will further develop their programming skills and study the fundamental theoretical knowledge of computing. Topics covered include C++, Java, Linux and object oriented programming.
Students have an optional unit to choose in the area which they plan to do specialized degree study at Curtin University.
Towards the end of the program, through the industrial training students will gain the practical skills and experience they need to be confident and industry-ready when they graduate.
