A Yayasan Sarawak initiative in collaboration with Curtin University Malaysia, this one-month course is designed to help Sarawakian students acquire and further enhance their language skills to prepare them for undergraduate studies.
Emphasis is given to active learning with opportunities to apply the language skills they acquire in contexts and situations similar to academic learning at undergraduate level.
This course is completely free, and lodging will be provided for students who are not from Miri. In addition, students are provided an RM300 allowance (one off payment) from Yayasan Sarawak.
Course learning outcomes
- Apply effective communication skills in oral presentations and group discussions
- Apply principles of critical reading
- Listen to and understand university-style lectures or talks
- Apply fundamental concepts and elements of academic writing in academic essays.
Target group
Open to Sarawakian students who recently completed their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) or other equivalent studies, and are looking to enhance their English skills before entering a tertiary educational institution.
