Student banking
The International Student Office assists international students in opening savings accounts with either Maybank or RHB Bank.
The opening of a savings account is only possible after the endorsement of the student visa. The process of opening a new savings account may either be immediate or longer due to verification purposes.
Students will be able to receive funds transfers from home into their savings account here in Miri. There are several mechanisms for this including Telegraphic Transfers and Moneygram Money Transfers.
To open a new bank savings account in Miri, certain documents (original and copies) are required and the requirements of different banks vary.
For the convenience of students, both Maybank and RHB Bank ATMs are located on campus in the Heron 1 Building.
- Personal Information Form
- Get the application form at the International Student Office
- Proof of tenancy in Miri
- On-campus accommodation
- Tenancy agreement from Housing Services
- Receipt of proof of payment
- Off-campus accommodation
- Utility bills of current residence
- Valid tenancy agreement, if necessary
- On-campus accommodation
- Letter of Offer from Curtin Malaysia
- Most recent Letter of Offer, obtained from eStudent
- New bank account letter
- Fill in the Requisition Form
- The online form will be received by the International Student Office. Alternatively, you can submit the form in person to their office. The processing fee of RM10 must be settled before the letter can be issued.
- The letter can be obtained from the International Student Office after three working days.
- A photocopy of your current passport
- The frontpage, for your personal information and photo
- A valid Malaysian Student Visa, with at least six months of validity
- Original passport
- For verification purposes
- Cash for your opening deposit
- The minimum amount required to open a new Savings Account is RM250
- Visa confirmation letter
- Apply at Miri Immigration Office
