This degree provides a pathway for those aspiring to advance their academic journey, including the opportunity to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A higher degree by research focuses primarily on independent study, with at least two-thirds of the program dedicated to research. While some coursework may be required, the core of your work involves developing a thesis under the guidance of a supervisory team. This thesis must make an original contribution to your field, whether through new discoveries, innovative theories, or reinterpretations of existing knowledge. It also showcases your ability to design and conduct substantial independent research.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A MPhil can be pursued either full-time or part-time, with a minimum duration of one year and a maximum of two years of equivalent full-time study. The time limits are adjusted for approved periods of leave of absence. For international onshore students on student visa, the registered full-time duration is two years. This research will culminate in the submission of a thesis which may contain materials that can be published in academic journals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Learning outcomes:<\/strong>\u00a0As demonstrated in the AQF level 9 criteria and MQF level 7 (Master\u2019s degree):<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the programme, graduates must be able to:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Master a body of knowledge that include understanding of recent developments in a discipline;<\/li>\n<li>Possess advanced knowledge of research principles and methods applicable to the field of study;<\/li>\n<li>Have expert, specialised cognitive and technical skills in a body of knowledge;<\/li>\n<li>Able to perform critical analysis, evaluation and synthesis of innovative and creative ideas to solve complex problems using appropriate analytical tools and digital technologies;<\/li>\n<li>Able to independently plan and manage research project by optimal utilisation of materials and resources;<\/li>\n<li>Able to interpret data and transmit knowledge, skills and ideas to specialist and non-specialist audiences, through publication and\/or identifications of pathways for product\/technology development and commercialisation of research outputs; or<\/li>\n<li>Graduated with or qualified for the award of Postgraduate Diploma in the field or related fields within Curtin University; or<\/li>\n<li>Graduated with or qualified for the award of the degree of Bachelor in the field or related fields within Curtin University with minimum CGPA of 2.75 or equivalent; or<\/li>\n<li>Graduated with or qualified for the award of the degree of Bachelor in the field or related fields within Curtin University with minimum CGPA of 2.50 or equivalent and not meeting CGPA of 2.75 or equivalent subject to rigorous internal assessment; or<\/li>\n<li>Graduated with or qualified for the award of the degree of Bachelor in the field or related fields within Curtin University with minimum CGPA of 2.00 or equivalent and not meeting CGPA of 2.50 or equivalent subject to a minimum of 5 years working experience in the relevant field and rigorous internal assessment.; or<\/li>\n<li>Obtained qualifications from another institution which are recognised by tertiary admissions authorities in Australia and which are deemed to be equivalent to any of the above criteria.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Candidates without a qualification in the related fields or relevant working experience must undergo appropriate prerequisite courses determined by the University and meet the minimum CGPA above.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>English requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>See the <a href=\"https:\/\/curtin.edu.my\/study\/admission-requirements\/english-language-entry-requirements\/\">English language entry requirements page<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n            <\/div>\n<\/div>                    <div class=\"accordion\">\n            <button class=\"accordion__heading accordion__toggle\" aria-controls=\"enrolment-and-duration-of-study\" aria-expanded=\"false\">Enrolment and duration of study<span class=\"ico ico-chevron-fat ico--deep-blue\"><svg xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\" viewBox=\"0 0 32 32\"><path d=\"M10.91 30.41l-2.82-2.82L19.67 16 8.09 4.41l2.82-2.82L25.33 16 10.91 30.41z\"\/><\/svg><\/span><\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content content\" id=\"enrolment-and-duration-of-study\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                    <p>Enrolment in the MPhil shall be for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a minimum period of one year and a maximum period of two years for full-time study, or<\/li>\n<li>a minimum of two years and a maximum period of four years for part-time study.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>However, international candidates must enrol as a full-time student.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Remark:<\/strong> For MPhil students funded by external grants, scholarships are generally valid for up to two years.<\/p>\n<p>If your enrolment starts after the grant starting date, your tuition fee waiver may be available for less than two years, depending on the grant end date. To avoid the funding gaps, you are encouraged to complete your program within 1.5 years.
