This degree, aligns with the Australian Qualifications Framework Level 10 criteria and normally requires at least three years of supervised research. As a PhD candidate, you will be expected to contribute to global scholarship via high quality publications in reputable academic journals with new knowledge through the discovery of facts, the formulation of new theories, or innovative reinterpretations of existing data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Curtin University is widely recognised for applied research focused on solving real-world problems. Strong collaborations with industry, business, and government ensure your work has meaningful outcomes for local and global communities. Our industry-driven approach enhances our international reputation, providing outstanding opportunities for you to become a leader and innovator in your field. Depending on your research project and supervisory arrangements, you may have the flexibility to split your research between Curtin Malaysia and Curtin Perth, receiving optimal support throughout your studies.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A PhD can be pursued either full-time or part-time, with a minimum duration of two years and a maximum of four years of equivalent full-time study. The time limits are adjusted for approved periods of leave of absence. For international onshore students on student visas, the registered full-time duration is four years. The programme may also include advanced coursework or training to enhance the capacity of the student to make a significant contribution to knowledge in the discipline studied.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Learning outcomes:<\/strong> As demonstrated in the AQF level 10 criteria and MQF doctoral level 8:<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the program, graduates should be able to:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Demonstrate a critical and in-depth understanding of frontier knowledge by generating substantial and original contributions to a field and\/or practice<\/li>\n<li>Synthesise existing and new knowledge in one or more discipline areas to develop new concepts or interpretations or applications<\/li>\n<li>Conduct rigorous and independent research or investigation with minimal supervision<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate intellectual leadership qualities and management skills<\/li>\n<li>Perform research adhering to legal, ethical, professional and sustainable practices<\/li>\n<li>Communicate cogently in the field\/s and interact with specialist and general audience<\/li>\n<li>Select and use suitable digital and analytical techniques to research problems<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate commitment to lifelong learning and personal development.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n            <\/div>\n<\/div>                    <div class=\"accordion\">\n            <button class=\"accordion__heading accordion__toggle\" aria-controls=\"entry-requirements\" aria-expanded=\"false\">Entry requirements<span class=\"ico ico-chevron-fat ico--deep-blue\"><svg xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\" viewBox=\"0 0 32 32\"><path d=\"M10.91 30.41l-2.82-2.82L19.67 16 8.09 4.41l2.82-2.82L25.33 16 10.91 30.41z\"\/><\/svg><\/span><\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content content\" id=\"entry-requirements\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                    <p>To be eligible for admission to a Doctor by Philosophy (By Research) program, you must meet at least one of the following criteria:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Graduated with or qualified for the award of the degree of Bachelor with First Class Honours or Upper Second Class Honours* (CGPA\u2265 3.5) in the field or related fields within Curtin University which includes the completion of a supervised research dissertation project carrying the equivalent credit of at least 25 percent of an annual full-time load; *Candidate having Upper Second-Class Honours can be considered for a direct Doctoral entry upon demonstration of research competencies as verified and deemed by the Academic Board at Curtin Malaysia), or<\/li>\n<li>Graduated with or qualified for the award of the degree of Master of Philosophy or Master of Research in the field or related fields within Curtin University which includes the completion of a publically available thesis, or<\/li>\n<li>Graduated with or qualified for the award of the degree Master by Coursework in the field or related fields within Curtin University, and the completion of a research dissertation project carrying the equivalent credit of at least 25 percent of an annual full-time load and which has been awarded an assessed result at or above distinction level, or<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Graduated with or qualified for the award of the degree Master by Coursework at or above distinction level in the field or related fields within Curtin University, and the completion of substantive and relevant research experience which can be evidenced in at least one of the following forms: (1) substantial scholarly papers as sole or primary author, appearing in recognised academic journals or in volumes published by recognised academic publishers; (2) published research reports prepared for industry, government or business, which adhere to the broad conventions of academic publishing and which identify the applicant as sole or primary author; (3) a portfolio of creative work with a published critical discussion of that work, which demonstrates the applicant\u2019s development of a scholarly approach to creative work as research investigation, for which the application is identified as sole or primary author, or<\/li>\n<li>Obtained qualifications from another institution which are recognised by tertiary admission authorities in\u00a0\u00a0 Australia and which are deemed to be equivalent to any of the above four criteria.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Candidates without a qualification in the related fields or relevant working experience must undergo appropriate prerequisite courses determined by the University.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>English requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>See the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/curtin.edu.my\/study\/admission-requirements\/english-language-entry-requirements\/\">English language entry requirements page<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n            <\/div>\n<\/div>                    <div class=\"accordion\">\n            <button class=\"accordion__heading accordion__toggle\" aria-controls=\"enrolment-and-duration-of-study\" aria-expanded=\"false\">Enrolment and duration of study<span class=\"ico ico-chevron-fat ico--deep-blue\"><svg xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\" viewBox=\"0 0 32 32\"><path d=\"M10.91 30.41l-2.82-2.82L19.67 16 8.09 4.41l2.82-2.82L25.33 16 10.91 30.41z\"\/><\/svg><\/span><\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content content\" id=\"enrolment-and-duration-of-study\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                    <p>Enrolment in the PhD shall be for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a minimum period of two year and a maximum period of four years for full-time study, or<\/li>\n<li>a minimum of four years and a maximum period of eight years for part-time study.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>However, international candidates must enrol as a full-time student.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Remark:<\/strong> For PhD students funded by the Curtin Malaysia Postgraduate Research Scholarship (CMPRS) or an external grant (such as FRGS, SMA or SRDC), funding is generally available for three years.<\/p>\n<p>You are strongly encouraged to complete your program within the funded period. If your candidature extends beyond your scholarship or grant period, you may need to pay your own tuition fees and\/or living expenses.<\/p>\n<p>A maximum of two-time of up to three-month tuition fee waiver extensions may be considered if you have made good research progress and receive the required approval.
