1. World Day for Safety and Health at WorkLocation: Prinia 2 PA2 Cinema Lite, Curtin University Malaysia World Safety Day event with the theme “A Safe and Healthy Working Environment as a Fundamental Principle and Right at Work.” Featuring guests from DOSH & Oceancare Corporation Sdn. Bhd. |
2. Video competitionLocation: Curtin University Malaysia A successful video competition during the World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2023 involving students and staff, showcasing creativity and talent. |
3. Field trip – Educational Visit to IGTCLocation: IG Training Centre Sdn. Bhd. Bachelor of Science in Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) students visited IGTC, a leading Oil and Gas training center in Miri. This visit was specially curated to provide them with a deep understanding of the real-world safety procedures and protocols in the oil and gas industry. |
4. HSE Webinar for Students and StaffLocation: Online A webinar organised for HSE students. Several academic staff members from the department also attended. One of the speakers, Mohd. Fazillah Raduan, is a graduate of Curtin Malaysia. He has extensive experience in supervising and managing safety-related issues in the workplace, mentoring and coaching HSE programmes, and establishing work instructions and procedures. In addition, he has been involved in HIRARC development and is an ISO45001 lead auditor. |

2. Australian Filmmaker Hollie Fifer’s Documentary WorkshopLocation: Cinema Lite, Curtin University Malaysia Joint collaboration with Freedom Film Network, an international community and engagement-driven network of social filmmakers. |
3. Kenyalang Film FestivalLocation: Cinema Lite, Curtin University Malaysia The first Kenyalang Film Festival, as a part of the Department’s Creative Hub in Borneo project sponsored by Wehaya Sdn. Bhd., a Bumiputera engineering company in the oil and gas industry. Supported by Sarawak Media Group which owns a digital television channel called TVS, and Freedom Film Network, an international community-driven social filmmaker network. |
4. Crash Landing on Journalism 2.0Location: Cinema Lite, Curtin University Malaysia A fun and engaging journalism workshop welcoming new media students from Foundation, Diploma, and Degree programs. |
5. Just Causes – MalaysiaLocation: Online (Facebook) A collaborative effort with the journalism team in Curtin Australia. Journalism students uploaded their news videos to Facebook to connect with the Miri community. |
6. Journalism Summer Camp 2025Location: Harry Perkins Lecture Theatre Journalism Summer Camp taught young media talents storytelling, news writing, interviewing and production skills, ending with a video showcase. A cultural highlight was a Japanese folk dance workshop featuring Soran Bushi and Bon Odori, enriching the creative learning experience. 7. Reaction, ReimaginationLocation: Sustainability Centre, Miri Marriot Resort & Spa Reaction, Reimagination exhibition blends art with sustainability, showcasing works by Britto Augustus and Marcelo Schellini that explore environmental and social issues. Hosted at the Sustainability Centre, it reflects creative responses to ecological challenges, encouraging community reflection on sustainable futures through visual storytelling and cultural perspectives. |
8. AI in the NewsroomLocation: Dynasty Hotel, Miri The Media and Communication Department facilitated the AI in the Newsroom workshop for the Northern Sarawak Journalists Association (NSJA). NSJA organised the event, while the department designed and delivered the training materials, helping journalists use AI to enhance reporting, fact-checking, and translation skills. |

8. Construction Management Week 2022Date: 18 to 21 April 2022 The Construction Management Week 2022 enhanced student exposure to the Malaysian industry via talks on local practices and site visits for first-hand insights into construction management. |
9. WebinarsLocation: Online Construction management students and academics attend webinars and guest lectures by local and international industry experts. These sessions provide practical, real-world insights into topics like Building Information Modeling (BIM), advanced technologies, and local industry practices, enhancing their curriculum. |

Program Saringan Kanser Serviks, Payudara & Kesihatan AmLocation: Kampung Bidayuh Ulu Sungei Dalam, Miri Curtin Malaysia teamed up with DBNA Miri to offer free HPV, cervical, and breast cancer education and screenings to women in rural Kampung Bidayuh – helping break barriers to preventive health care and promote well-being. |
2. Program Advokasi Kanak-Kanak 2.0Date: Between October & November 2024 Curtin Malaysia spearheaded community-outreach art projects to support child protection: a mural for the launch of its Child Protection Advocacy Programme at SMK Taman Tunku, then another at SK Merbau to back the “Talian Kasih” helpline, using art and events to raise awareness of children’s safety, rights and support services. 3. Entrepreneurial BazaarLocation: Curtin Malaysia Curtin Malaysia’s student run Entrepreneurial Bazaar transformed the campus into a lively hub with over 200 students, 30 booths, and 100 products, showcasing creativity, commerce, and real world business skills. |
4. Program Pengagihan Bubur LambukLocation: Permyjaya Children’s Activity Centre (PAKKPJ), Miri Bubur Lambuk Distribution Programme involved 46 students and lecturers from Curtin Malaysia who cooked and handed out over 600 bowls of bubur lambuk at PAKKPJ over two days, sharing kindness and cultural unity during Ramadan. |
5. Introduction to Community ServiceStudents undertaking the Introduction to Community Service unit conducted a series of meaningful outreach visits, engaging with residents of Kenosis Miri, Kompleks Kebajikan Hamidah Yakup, Miri Methodist Children’s Home, and Pusat Jagaan Anak Kesayangan Kami. Through activities, conversations, and shared experiences, the students fostered empathy, social awareness, and a deeper understanding of community needs while contributing positively to each organisation. 6. Curtin Entrepreneurship CarnivalLocation: LT Foyer, Curtin Malaysia Students showcased their creativity and business ideas through vibrant stalls filled with food, crafts and art, creating a fun, entrepreneurial atmosphere enjoyed by the campus community and the public. |
7. Online Collaborative Learning Program for SDGsLocation: Online An online exchange program based on UMAP, in collaboration with Toyo University Japan. |
8. Bokashi Composting ProjectLocation: Various location in Miri A Bokashi Composting Project, in collaboration with the Faculty of Business and Miri City Council, was implemented across 15 zones in Miri. |
